Set of Fred Press Mid-Century Celestial/Atomic Burst 22 Karat Black and Gold Glasses

A wonderful set of Fred Press signed mid-century celestial/atomic burst 22-karat gold & black highball glasses. The glasses feature the celestial design; bright bold stars with 22-karat gold and the atomic starburst on one side and a sun/moon eclipse on the other side.  This set appears to never have been used.  The 22K design is bright and completely intact.

This set looks new.

Fred Press was born in Boston, MA in 1919. He studied and later taught at the Vesper George School of Art and was the founder of the sculpture collection Contemporary Arts, Inc. In the 1950s, Press moved to New York City where he became chief designer for Rubel and Co. and turned his artistic skills towards glassware and giftware.

He was one of the most versatile and prolific of America's 20th Century designers. Press produced hundreds of sculptures and paintings (which are part of the permanent collection of Boston's Museum of Fine Arts) in addition to numerous glassware designs. His product designs won awards from New York's Museum of Modern Art. His unique products and glassware remain popular today.

Fred Press died in 2012.
